Frequently Asked Questions

1.“What’s The Difference Between You Guys and Those Other On Line Florists?”

Most of those “Other on line florists” are not Florists at all. On line flower-sellers come in three flavors: 1) “Order Gatherers” – these are companies (like 1-800 Flowers) that are experts in marketing and taking orders for flowers, but are not florists. After they take an order, they then go about finding retail flower shops to fill the order. Obviously, they have very little control over the final product, and since they are a “middle man”, they take some of your money that could be put into your gift for the recipient. 2) “Direct Shippers” – these companies (like ProFlowers) sell flowers arrangements and then deconstruct them, putting the stems in a box along with a vase, and then ship the package overnight to the recipient. The recipient then has to open the box and put their arrangement together in the supplied vase. Obviously, these companies have no idea how the final product turns out, or in what shape the flowers are in when they arrive. 3) Traditional Floral Shops. That would be like us. We have the equipment, training, professional certifications and experience to take your emotions, your intentions, and translate them into a creative floral production. Even if your order is headed out of town, out of our local delivery area, we have the expertise to pick the best affiliate florist – one like us. We also have the integrity to stand behind our work and honor our commitments regardless of the final destination of your order.

2.“How long should my flowers last?”

Good question. It depends on these three things: 1) What flower type is it. Some flowers are deemed “long lasting”, like carnations, alstromeria, and some lilies. If you order flowers and want them long lasting, ask for just that. Any competent florist can design a beautiful arrangement for you with those instructions. 2) How the flowers are handled from the grower to the florist and while at the florist. This is where you need to trust your professional florist. We do our best to use suppliers that care about such things – and suppliers that purchase from growers that do also. And at our shop, all the standard care is taken, from cutting, feeding, and time spent in the cooler. We do our best to give you the freshest product possible so they will last as long as possible once you receive them. 3) How the recipient treats them once they have them. This is the great unknown. We provide care information with all our arrangements and if it is made up of cut flowers in a vase, we also provide extra plant food with instructions too. We have had recipients call us to tell us their flowers still look great after 2 weeks. And we have had recipients say their flower did not last long enough too. (Which we happily replaced). In short, keep them away from heat, and direct sunlight as much as possible – follow the care instructions, and if you are so inclined, re-cut the stems and replace the water every two or three days. Just keep in mind it’s the excitement and the memory that makes flowers such a cherished gift. Statistics have shown over and over that the vast majority of recipients of flowers remember very well the last time they received flowers. The value is in the moment and the thought, not in the duration of the flowers themselves.

3.“Why are roses so expensive?”

It’s that old bugaboo: supply and demand. Roses are always in great demand, because when someone says “name a flower”, about 80% of us will say “rose”. And so, when we order flowers (particularly guys), that’s the flower we go with as a failsafe option. On the supply side, roses are subject to the weather and seasonal expectations of the planters and growers. Sometimes (like around Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and the spring Prom season) supply runs low and demand runs high and – Wham!, the price goes up. One thing is for sure and you can believe it – us Florists at the end of the supply chain are not making more money – as least not on a percentage basis – and sometime we even make less when we refuse to pass on the full – and what we believe to be outrageous – price increase we face on one stem or another. If roses are past your budget, ask us about options. One reason you use a professional because we know the “tricks of the trade”. Based on your occasion, we can offer some creative suggestion that will fit your budget and will wow your recipient.

4.“Why are flowers cheaper at Wal-Mart?”

Well, quite frankly, Wal-Mart is not a flower shop. Great socks, great deals on frozen pizzas, but they are not a florist and they don’t hire florists either. They normally buy narrow-line items like flowers from one supplier, maybe two, and in volumes that would make the Rose Bowl Parade blush with envy. How they are handled and by whom is certainly open to question at these mega-monster retailers. Typically, the same staff handles produce like bananas and tomatoes. For us, flowers are pretty much all we do and we spend significant money on equipment, training, certifications and competitions. We are careful about where we buy from, and how we treat our flowers. We don’t buy the cheapest product, nor do we scrimp on care and handling. Our finished products will cost more – they should. It’s overused but true: you do quite often get what you pay for. If you care about the statement you are making to the person you are buying flowers for, you should buy your flowers from us.

5.“For flowers I want to send out of your local delivery area, why can’t I just call a flower shop in the recipient’s town and bypass you?”

Well, you can, but you may not want to. For the small surcharge you pay us to take care of it all, you are getting a great value. Here are three reasons to let us handle it for you: 1) We know and use only the best florists out there across the country. And we employ a one strike policy – if we ever have a problem with one of our affiliate florist, for whatever reason, we strike these from our directory and never use them again. We also notate the “above and beyond” affiliate florists, and use them over and over again. So, you don’t have to guess about who you are dealing with in that far away town – we already know who to call and who will do the best job. 2) We know how to speak “flower-ese” when talking with our fellow florists – essentially how to translate what you want into a floral creation worthy of your intentions. You tell us once, then we translate for the filling florist and the result is exactly what you wanted. 3) We guarantee your satisfaction, regardless of where your delivery is going. You will never hear us mention blame in the unlikely event something goes wrong. If it does, it’s our fault and we’ll make it right and right away! So, why go to all the hassle and risk in finding a shop near the recipient? Just trust us – it’s what we do!

Substitution Policy

Occasionally, substitutions may be necessary to create your bouquet due to the availability of certain flowers in various parts of the country. Care is taken to maintain the style, theme and color scheme of the arrangement, using flowers of equal value. Additionally, the substitution of certain keepsake items may be necessary due to increased demand, especially during major holidays. In single-flower arrangements, such as an all rose bouquet, or orchids, we will make every attempt to match the flower type, but may substitute with another color.
